* The consolidation interest rate. What you want is a fixed rate loan and a rate that is lower than the average rate of your current debt.

* Consolidation loan payments. You'll want a monthly payment that is lower than the combined payments of the current debt, although this should not be accomplished by any considerable lengthening of the repayment time.

* Whether your credit rating will be negatively affected. If the consolidation firm is not clear on this, go elsewhere.

Stock option trading new options clearing corporation rule

A few years ago on a Monday morning, I checked my brokerage account and to my surprise it showed that I had purchased 1,000 shares of AMD for a total cost of $15,000. The payment for this purchase was taken out of my brokerage money market account.

Why surprised you may ask. I had not put an order for this purchase nor did I really intend to buy AMD. I get to this in a little bit.

Had I wanted to sell the stock on that day, I would have received around $14,500, a loss of $500 in just a few hours. In the end it worked out and I sold that particular stock a few months later for a handsome profit.

But on that day I had a paper loss of $500 and if I didn’t have enough money to pay for the purchase, the $500 loss would have been the least of my worries.

So, how did I end up with a stock that I did not necessarily want or order?

Automatic exercise threshold for equity options is the reason.

Today, I received the following message from two of my brokerage firms that reminded me of that day.

“Beginning October 2006, the Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) will implement a change to reduce the automatic exercise threshold for equity options. The current threshold of $0.25 will be set at $0.05 for expiring options that are automatically exercised by the OCC. The threshold for index options will remain at $0.01.”

Who cares about a measly $0.20? You can’t even buy a stick of gum with that.

For options traders this could mean a huge potential loss, margin calls and a whole lot of trouble.

Let’s go over a few simple reminders about options trading. Options are contracts that allow a person to buy or sell securities, for example stocks, at a predetermined price called option exercise price and on/or before a predetermined date in the future called option expiration date.

Options represent a reserved right but not an obligation. In other words, the holder of this right, that is to say the buyer, can exercise this right or not.

For example if you own a Microsoft January 25 Call Option, it gives you the right to buy Microsoft for $25.00 on or before third Friday in January. It is obvious that you would not exercise your option if Microsoft is at $20.00. In that case, if you really like Microsoft, you just go to open market and buy it for $20.00.

However, if Microsoft soars to $40, then you want to exercise your right (option) and buy the stock at $25 and turn around and sell it at $40 or keep it for further potential increase.

To exercise your options you need enough money to pay for buying the stock. Each option contract represents 100 shares of stocks, so 10 contracts represent 1000 shares of stocks. In our Microsoft example, for you to exercise 10 options contracts at the price of $25.00 requires $25,000 to be in your account.

If you don’t have that money, well, you may face margin calls and some other not so pleasant consequence. This is where the new change can cause some serious damage.

Options are a right and not an obligation except that you have to deal with automatic exercise threshold. This is the threshold the Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) uses to determine if they should exercise your right on your behalf.

In the letter I received from my brokerage firm, they informed me that if the price of the stock is only a nickel ($.05) above the exercise price, that would mean they will automatically buy the stock for me according to this new rule.

So what can options traders do not to deal with unwanted stocks?

First, they can and should watch the stock price and be proactive in the process especially on the option expiration date. Option trading is not by any stretch of imagination a passive approach. They can also call their brokerage firm and find out what other alternatives are available to them.

Seasoned options traders know what they should do and the aim of this article is to bring some facts to the attention of those who are just getting started.

The Basenji is one of the few breeds of hypoallergenic dog that does not bark. It will imitate sounds heard in its environment, but it does not bark on its own. Systolic blood pressure is the force of blood in your arteries as your heart beats. If your systolic number is higher than one hundred and forty you have high blood pressure. Even if your diastolic number is not high you can still have 'isolated systolic hypertension.' This means only your systolic number is high.

This is more common for older Americans. This pressure usually increases with age whereas diastolic pressure decreases after fifty-five. You might not know if you have isolated systolic hypertension so ask your doctor if you are concerned.

Diastolic blood pressure is the force of blood in your arteries when your heart relaxes between beats. For younger people this is a very important number. The higher this pressure is the more you are at risk. This blood pressure lowers as you get older and your systolic increases. Therefore diastolic is more important in younger people and systolic in older.

Normal blood pressure is less than one hundred and twenty over less than eighty. If your pressure is between the normal numbers and one hundred and thirty-nine over eighty-nine, you have what is called prehypertension. 2006 top fashion trends for kids

The biggest trend for 2006 is that kids are more fashion-conscious—at earlier ages. You may have seen those ads for Old Navy—“Get your Fash’ On”? They’re aimed at pre-teens—who are absorbing the message. Many of us didn’t care about fashion until we hit high school—until then, we wore whatever T-shirts, jeans, shirts, sweatshirts, and other things our parents bought us or our older siblings handed down. Today, kids as young as eight or nine are brand-conscious and trend-aware, shopping for cohesive outfits instead of just throwing on whatever’s clean. Here are just some of the brands and trends your youngsters craved over 2006.

The 80’s Are Back. You may have noticed a trend this year for skinny jeans, ballet-slipper-inspired shoes, leggings under skirts, oversized tees, and big hoop earrings. This is a look that appeals to young girls—it’s whimsical and yet stylish at the same time. Trendy tweens in 2006 went for the Flashdance look in a big way.

Crib Rock Couture. This company mixes traditional nursery rhymes with edgy style to give a unique, creative and entertaining take on kids’ clothing. The brand is extremely popular among celebrities—Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck, and more are all known to dress their kids in these clothes.

Bohemian Chic. With stars like Mary Kate Olsen and Sienna Miller as role models, young girls went for the flowy, flowery Bohemian Chic look in a big way this past year. This look involves long, flowing skirts; earthy tones combined with antique colors like dusty rose and muted sage; lots of contrasts in texture; Ethnic-inspired prints; and chunky, handmade-looking jewelry.

Rock Edge. Rock-inspired tees for boys have been a big trend ever since Angelina Jolie’s son, Shiloh, made an appearance in People Magazine wearing one from Kingsley. These tees are vintage-looking, faded and distressed. Boys tend to like baggy pants, but the look is a tad more sophisticated when paired with some dark, straight-leg fitted jeans or a pair of skater-boy long shorts.

Vintage Casual. A little softer than the rock-edge look, but still along the same theme, boys loved the vintage casual look this year—it looks cool without “trying too hard,” and it’s comfortable, too. Pre-worn, pre-distressed and faded-looking tees with old-fashioned logos are a mainstay of this look, worn under button-downs left unbuttoned and untucked for that casual, relaxed look. Cargo pants and worn-in, relaxed-fit jeans are a natural pairing.

Have your ever heard (or thought) the following? "We're a startup software company. We'll attack our home market first, then think about international markets."

Wrong answer! (In most cases, anyway). I work with a lot of startups, and I hear the above all too often. Especially when the founder or CEO comes from a technical background. But this attitude is very unfortunate, and in some cases can stunt or kill a company that should have otherwise made it.

That's because there is low-hanging fruit outside of your home markets, my friends. And if you leave it out there long enough, your competitors will grab it instead of you. I've sold an incredible amount of software in secondary markets such as Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium and others. In the early 90s, I started up a group marketing a new Systems Management product. By the middle of our second year of operation, over 40% of our revenue was international, all while spending just a fraction of our marketing budget outside of the US. Let's look at the specifics of US-based software startups.

US startups can access this low-hanging fruit relatively easily for a number of reasons. First, in the software business there aren't the risks and costs associated with inventory that you would find in a manufactered goods business. The costs and risks are still there, but they are greatly reduced to the extent they aren't a strategic issue. Next, most of your startup competitors have the attitude of the first paragraph, and are contentedly pounding away at their home markets. Next, it is far easier to adjust prices to local markets and set up segmentation fences through localization in the software business, than it is in a hardware business. In addition, if you are a US-based company, there will be some overflow effect from your US marketing efforts, since the US is the center of the software world. And last (but definitely not least) is the unique attribute of secondary markets: the ability to find good distribution Partners. Partners that have a head start in their markets, existing momentum that you can leverage.

We'll come back to this last point in a minute. But first, let's go back to our typical US-based software startup. This CEO is rather bold compared to his peers. He decides to dip the company's toe into international markets. Where do they go first? Why, the UK, of course! It "feels" the most like home. And indeed, it is. The UK is the SECOND MOST COMPETITIVE and sophisticated market in the world. To add to this misstep, although the UK is officially part of Europe, from a cultural and marketing/distribution perspective, it is quite different. So this initial step doesn't even provide quite the learning experience you'd like when moving on to continental Europe.

Let's get back to that unique attribute of secondary markets, the ability to find good partners. I've highlighted partners because it is so important to find the right partners and treat them well. What you are looking to do is find someone to ACT ON YOUR BEHALF in this local market. Someone who will put out the effort, spend their own capital, and be just as committed to the product's success in this market as you are in your home market. This isn't easy to do, but the payoff is high if you get it right. Find the best potential partner, then structure the deal to get them excited. Give them high discounts, provide extensive sales and technical training. Do give them at least a short term exclusive. Set the deal up so that they aren't competing with other distributors of your product or even you--just your common enemy, the competition. If you do this right, you will have created an order/revenue generation machine that will work for you for years to come--with very little ongoing investment. And might even be humming away while you're still investing and pounding away trying to get established in your home market. This is contrary to what many will tell you, but it is true. I have done it many times across a variety of markets and products. I could write about this topic almost indefinitely, and of course, the devil is always in the details. But I'll stop here. You need prospective clients and customers: If you don't have a customer list from which to solicit referrals, and you also lack an advertising/marketing budget, cold-calling to a highly targeted list is the fastest route to finding high probability prospects.

A High Probability Prospect is one who wants, needs, can afford, and is ready to buy your product or service - now. Those who only want, need, and can afford - but are not ready to buy now - are prospects that you will not meet with now. But, you will continue to contact in the future, until they are ready to buy.

How does Cold Calling fit into High Probability Prospecting?

Before picking up the phone, you need to define your target market. Your target markets are consumers and/or companies who are likely to want your product or service.
